Five decades of science-based Aegean archaeology — past directors, affiliates and doctoral alumni return to Souedias Street.

Fitch Laboratory
A world-leading centre for science-based archaeology — ceramic petrology, chemical analysis and training since 1974.
The Fitch specialises in the analysis of inorganic materials, especially ceramics using ceramic petrology and chemical analysis. It also supports bioarchaeological research, including analysis of human and animal bones and ancient plant remains. Its work has opened new understandings of technological transfer, craft traditions, and the movement of people, goods and techniques across the Aegean and the Mediterranean.
The Laboratory operates with a small permanent staff and hosts externally funded researchers. It offers the three-year Williams Fellowship in ceramic petrology, annual bursaries for postgraduates and early-career scholars, and a training programme of taught courses and hands-on work.

The Fitch maintains a growing network of collaborations in research, training, infrastructure and outreach — in the UK and Greece, and further in Europe, Asia and North America.
